Hex Encoder & Decoder — Base16 Converter

Convert text to Hexadecimal (Base16) and back. View binary data as Hex strings. Useful for debugging, color codes, and low-level programming.

What is Hex (Base16) Tool?

Hexadecimal (or Hex) is a base-16 numeral system used heavily in computing. It uses sixteen distinct symbols: 0-9 to represent values zero to nine, and A-F to represent values ten to fifteen. Hex is the standard way to represent binary data in a human-readable format because each hex digit represents exactly 4 bits (a nibble), and two hex digits represent a byte (8 bits). This tool allows you to convert any text string into its Hex representation and vice versa, which is essential for debugging binary files, network packets, or working with color codes.

Input Formats

  • Plain text
  • Hex strings (with or without spaces)
  • 0x prefixed strings

Output Results

  • Hex string
  • Decoded text
  • Copy-ready result

Examples

Input

Hello

Output

48656c6c6f

Common Errors

  • Odd length hex strings (must be pairs)
  • Invalid characters (G-Z are not valid hex)
  • Confusing Hex with Base64

Code Examples

JavaScript

function toHex(str) {
  return Array.from(str).map(c =>
    c.charCodeAt(0).toString(16).padStart(2, '0')
  ).join('');
}

Python

text = 'Hello'
hex_string = text.encode('utf-8').hex()
print(hex_string)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Hex used so much?
It's the perfect shorthand for binary. One byte (8 bits) is exactly two hex digits. It's much easier to read 'FF' than '11111111'.
Is case important?
No. '4A' and '4a' are the same number. I can read both, but I usually output lowercase.
What is the '0x' prefix?
Programmers use '0x' to tell the computer 'this is a hex number'. You can paste it here, and I'll handle it.
